The MacZOT Revolution

Mac users should get to know MacZOT, a pioneering web site for software marketing. In a nutshell, they work with software developers to sell their applications at a lower price for a day, trying to create a buzz around the product. Their approach seems a little offbeat, hawking such offerings as MyzteryZOTs, which are grab bags of applications at a low price–you find out what they are after you buy them.

Their latest effort involves SubEthaEdit from CodingMonkeys, a programmer’s text editor that features real-time collaboration using Bonjour (nee Rendezvous). In what they’re calling BLOGZOT 2.0 on MacZOT.com, MacZOT and TheCodingMonkeys will award $105,000 in Mac software by reducing the price of SubEthaEdit $0.05 each time someone blogs about it.

They offer a Dashboard widget with their latest news that I check daily for anything interesting. I hope the concept stays alive–I certainly find out about more software this way, and lower prices are always attractive. It’s fun, frankly, to see what’s new each day. And for the entrepreneurial, the windowszot.com seems to be available–maybe MacZOT will franchise that 🙂
