Are Java People Nuts?

A friend of mine who works with .NET recently expressed some interest in Java. I urged him to download and install Eclipse and give Java a whirl. A couple of days later, he e-mailed me this gem:

\”Ok, I looked at Eclipse and Java a bit. Here is my take: Java people are nuts. It is like all the loons from the Linux, BSD, and OS/2 camps got together and decided they’d all use a standard language. Then they invited some Powerbuilder evangelists to the group to give it a bit of a cult feel. I think I’ll stick with Microsoft tools where the feeling I get is ‘it pays the bills.’ I don’t think software development should be a religious experience or an artistic expression. Behold my curly braces! I think it should just get the job done.\”
